Pres envoy says Telegram safer for communication than WhatsApp
MOSCOW, Sep 17 (PRIME) -- Software of messenger Telegram, which is banned in Russia, is preferable to the solution of WhatsApp from the point of view of security of communications, Dmitry Peskov, special representative of the president for digital and technological development, told PRIME on Tuesday.
“There are no absolutely safe means of communication. Unless we design a quantum messenger, there are no safe means,” Peskov said, adding that it is still a long story to develop such a service.
“Choosing between solutions of WhatsApp and Telegram, the evident pick is Telegram from the point of view of security of communications,” he said.
Whistleblower Edward Snowden said earlier in an interview with French media that high-ranking officials should not use WhatsApp due to a low level of encoding. He also said that WhatsApp and Telegram are better than SMSs or other non-deciphered means.
